Sharon Rae Johnson Burroughs

Sharon Rae Burroughs was born June 16, 1940 to Arlyn and Jeanette Johnson in Ortonville, Minnesota. She passed away December 7, 2024 in Cullman, Alabama. She was a 1958 graduate of Spencer Senior High School in Spencer, Iowa, where she developed a passion for cheerleading and theater and was honored to be selected homecoming attendant her senior year. Upon graduation, her family moved to Ashland, Alabama, where she met the love of her life, Hilton Burroughs. Hilton and Sharon married August 4, 1960, in Lohman, Missouri. Sharon was a devoted wife and mother. She adored her four children to whom she faithfully dedicated her entire life. Sharon had a way about her. Those of us who loved her most and knew her best realized that her ability to brighten a dreary day was a God-given talent that she gave mostly unwittingly just because she was good and kind to the deepest recesses of her soul. Her loved ones--particularly her children, grandchildren, and even her great grandchildren--were the greatest benefactors of the light she brought into this world. We all experience darkness from time to time in our lives. Sometimes it is just a momentary sadness, but there are also times when it is so overwhelming that it seems to chill us to the core. It is during those times of despair that we desperately need some light in our lives. Sharon could bring that light in an instant. She loved to talk and whether it was a dear friend, a family member, or a total stranger in the checkout line at the grocery store, she could bring a little joy to someone’s life. Whether you were around her for your whole life or just for a minute or two, you always walked away with a smile on your face. Sharon has gone to her reward in Heaven to be with her beloved husband Hilton and her dear, dear mother Jeanette. Those of us who loved her so much are experiencing a cloudy day without our “Sunshine.” We ask all who knew Sharon to be that light for others as she was for you and her family. That would be a perfect tribute to her memory and the most appropriate thank you that you could give her for all the light she brought into your life. Survivors include her children, Jeff (Denise) Burroughs, Susan (Van) Trent, Scott (Carolyn) Burroughs, and Jamie (Dyroma) Burroughs; grandchildren, Jesse Burroughs, Libby Burroughs, Kacy (Brady) Patterson, Cooper (Catie) Trent, Johnson Trent, Marie Trent, Anna Hampton Burroughs, Claudia Burroughs, Lauren Burroughs, Cade Burroughs, Marshall McGarity, and Anna (Brett) Stallings; great grandchildren, Louise Trent, Cooper Trent, and Bowen Trent, brothers, Richard (Jean) Johnson, Rex (Mary Anne) Johnson, and Mike (Ellen) Johnson, sister-in-law, Carolyn Burroughs; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Sharon was preceded in death by her husband Hilton Burroughs, her mother Jeanette Johnson, her father Arlyn Johnson, and her brother Brad Johnson. Visitation will be held at St. John’s Evangelical Church in Cullman on December 12 from 1:00-3:00pm immediately followed by a celebration of Sharon’s life at 3:00pm. There will be a private family burial in Ashland, Alabama, where Sharon will be laid to rest next to her cherished husband, Hilton.
