MICHAEL WADE DUKE Michael Wade Duke, age 58 of Vinemont, AL went to be with the Lord on June 11, 2015, after a year-long courageous battle with cancer. Mike passed away at his residence surrounded by family. He was born on February 22, 1957 to Escol and Dorothy Duke. Mike was a long time banker and community leader in Cullman. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Derinda; son, Tyler; parents Escol and Dorothy Duke; sister, Judy Duke; brother, Mitchell (Kathy) Duke; parents-in-law Carl (Nel) Pruett and Lyndal (Dennis) Eidson; brother-in-law, David (Robin) Pruett; niece, Jessica (Stephen) Jordan; nephews, Nathan Duke and Jackson Pruett. Mike was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Cullman Savings Bank where he had served since 2007. Prior to this appointment, Mike served as President of Eva Bank, Cullman, Alabama, from 1999–2007. He worked for AmSouth Bank for the prior 20 years, serving as the Alabama north region controller for eight years and as the Cullman bank president for four years. He also served in numerous community leadership positions through the years including chairman, Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce; president, Cullman Regional Medical Center Foundation; president, Cullman County Farm City Committee and president, Cullman Area United Way. He and wife, Derinda, along with their son, Tyler, have been active members of First Baptist Church of Cullman. Mike loved, and was loved by many and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and coworkers. His strong work ethic, trustworthiness and positive, encouraging approach to life left everyone he interacted with feeling enriched by his presence. Mike’s sense of humor and kind, good-natured teasing brightened the lives of family and friends, leaving a lasting impact. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on June 13, 2015 at First Baptist Church Cullman with Kevin Wilburn officiating. Interment will be at Duck River Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 – 8:30 PM at the funeral home. Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Cullman building fund or to CRMC Hospice.
