Kay Frances Alexander

Funeral Service for Kay Alexander, age 87 of Hayden, will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 23, 2020, at Cornerstone Revival Center with Rev. Jeremy Wilbanks and Rev. Greg Wilbanks officiating; burial at Walkers Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Cornerstone Revival Center. Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Kay Frances Alexander passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at her residence, surrounded by loved ones. She was born, August 28, 1933, to the late George and Mabel Young. Mrs. Alexander was born and raised in Hardin County, Tennessee. On August 26, 1950, at the age of 17, Kay married the love of her life, Herbert Hoover Alexander. The two celebrated 70 years of marriage this year. The couple built a life together with their four children, Rick (Richard), Randy (Randall), Jeannie, and Angie (Angela). That legacy now includes 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Alexander graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1970 with her Bachelors degree. She went on to achieve her masters degree and double A in Education. She taught school in Jefferson County, Alabama, for 26 years then retired to her home in Hayden, Alabama. Mrs. Alexander loved to plan Christmas celebrations and would go to great lengths, planning throughout the year to be sure that she had gifts for every grandchild, great-grandchild and great-great-grandchild plus spouses. She never forgot a birthday and all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren could expect a birthday card with $10 in it each year. Mrs. Alexander played piano and loved to sing. At most family gatherings, she would play the piano and ask her children to join her in singing song after song. Gospel music was her favorite and for a brief time, she, Mr. Alexander, and her children toured and sang gospel music at churches throughout the southeast. Kay Frances Alexander was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mabel Young; her siblings, Kenneth Young, Don Young, Steve Young, and Yvonne Johnson; her son, Randall Alexander; nephew, David George Young; and great-grandson, Henry Graham Odom. She is survived by her husband, Herbert Hoover Alexander; her son Richard Steve Alexander, Sr. (Cathy); her two daughters, Jeannie Nazario and Angela Alexander; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Alexander; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
